Ladies & Gentlemen,

Ladies & Gentlemen,

3. I believe we have about 2000 participants this year comprising team members, observers and productivity enthusiasts. I want to thank all of you for the work you do, the contribution you make, and your involvement in the National Team Excellence on Innovative and Creative Circle (ICC) Convention, and the National Team Excellence on Quality Excellence (QE) Convention. The theme “From Ideas to Reality” is befitting as we implement our Eleventh Malaysia Plan that focuses on “Anchoring Growth on People.”

4. The Innovative and Creative Circles (ICC), which is the impetus of the APIC, is in itself an extraordinary working concept. Besides promoting the implementation of Malaysian best practices, it is also an avenue to learn from the best, to share, and widen horizons.

5. APIC’s other crucial significance is its attention to workplace arrangement. Studies have shown that the workplace environment impacts greatly on productivity. A convivial environment is conducive towards generating creativity, a stressful one generates negativity and undermines morale. By being conscious of the quality of work environment, can help we enhance efficiency in the workplace.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

6. Innovation and productivity have been identified as key drivers for our country`s economic transformation. This is duly reflected in the project presentation of the participating organisations through respective success stories and practical applications relating to these aspects. For the past five years, a total savings of RM833 million was achieved by 924 circles in implementing projects such as eliminating rejects, reducing high direct cost and overcoming inventory problems. I am delighted to know that the total cost savings from the Team Excellence projects presented in APIC 2015 amount to approximately RM196 million. This is testimony that organisations are taking proactive steps to forge ahead in enhancing innovation, excellence and competitiveness.

7. In today`s digital era, the one constant is change. It is imperative that we develop a mind-set and arm ourselves with the necessary tools to keep pace with a rapidly shifting economic landscape. In this context, it is vital that we invest in our people, especially our youth. Clearly, our nation`s young people are tremendously talented and creative. Our aim must be to provide them with the opportunities and training to help them develop and become part of our Team Excellence initiative.

Ladies & Gentlemen,

8. The Global Competitiveness Report released by the World Economic Forum in September 2015 ranked Malaysia 18th out of 140 economies. It also ranked Malaysia the highest among ASEAN economies which are in the transition of efficiency-driven to innovation-stage of development.

9. The WEF Report affirms the existing compelling evidence that the avenues for innovation and development established by the Government through agencies such as the Malaysia Productivity Corporation have been effective. Over recent years, MPC has proven itself as the nation’s catalyst for enhancing productivity, quality, innovation and creativity.

10. To achieve our Vision 2020 goals, it is crucial that Malaysia transforms itself from an input-based economy to one that is knowledge and innovation-based. We are aware that this transformation cannot be achieved overnight. And that bringing about change can often be challenging. But we have no choice if we are to ensure the future prosperity of our people. The evidence so far indicates we are well on the way. However, there is no room for complacency in this effort, given the rising global competition.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

11. We welcome the efforts from our APIC participants in advancing the standards of efficiency and productivity within their respective industries. Through strategic study, inventive prowess and a willingness to challenge convention, we will continuously improve our work processes to more efficiently manage our resources and review outdated rules and regulations.

12. It is my hope that APIC 2015 has benefitted all participants, organisers and guests. I am confident that with your support and dedication to Team Excellence, we can together build a more dynamic and inclusive Malaysia

Sekian, terima kasih.
