RATIONALE

Machinery is a common element in any manufacturing set-up and it is perhaps the very heartbeat of the operation. Hence, machine breakdown is unacceptable. Proactive machine maintenance activity such as Preventive Maintenance can help prevent unplanned machine breakdown. Preventive Maintenance is one of the four maintenance activities in the implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) which also comprise of Productive Maintenance, Corrective Maintenance and Maintenance Prevention. TPM is not at all like maintenance activities that repairs machine breakdowns, however it is a proactive approach that essentially aims to prevent unexpected stoppages in the process due to machine unavailability known as downtime.
