Datuk Hanafi Sakri
Datuk Hanafi Sakri was appointed on 1 May 2023 as Deputy Chairman of the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) Board and currently serves as the Timbalan Ketua Setiausaha (Industri) at the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI). He holds a Master’s in Economics from Okayama University, Japan, and a Bachelor’s in Economics from Universiti Malaya, alongside a Diploma in Public Administration from INTAN.
With extensive experience across MITI, the Ministry of Finance (MOF), Melaka State Treasury, the Ministry of Domestic Trade, and the Economic Planning Unit, he has played a pivotal role in advancing Malaysia’s industrial and trade policies. He has led key international negotiations including Free Trade Agreements with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Pakistan, and Turkiye, as well as spearheading Malaysia’s participation in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) supply chain pillar.
Datuk Hanafi has been instrumental in shaping national industrial strategies, including his leadership role and involvement in the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030, the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), the National Automotive Policy, the Chemical Industry Roadmap, and the formulation of various cross-sector industrial policy to strengthen competitiveness and productivity. His leadership roles have also spanned senior positions in taxation, trade, and industrial development.
Beyond policymaking and negotiations, he contributes academically as an Adjunct Professor at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) and sits on multiple boards. He currently serves as Chairman of the National Aerospace Industry Coordinating Office (NAICO), Collaborative Research in Engineering, Science and Technology (CREST), and the Malaysia Steel Institute (MSI).
