MPC and IEM Launch AI Aware Certification Program to Enhance Engineering Productivity in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, 18 April – In an effort to drive competitiveness and improve the efficiency of the country’s engineering sector, The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) are set to launch the AI Aware Certification Program, an important initiative aimed at introducing the concept of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Malaysian engineers. This program is designed to equip professionals with the fundamental AI knowledge required to enhance productivity and foster innovation in the engineering sector.

The official launch of this program will be followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MPC and IEM, aimed at introducing this certification program to the engineering community in Malaysia. The program will offer an accessible and structured learning experience, consisting of multiple stages. Participants who complete and pass each stage will have the opportunity to advance to the next level. Successful candidates will receive a digital pin and an official certificate issued jointly by MPC and IEM.

According to Datuk Zahid Ismail, Director General of MPC, stressed that AI is no longer just a concept for the future, but a necessity in today’s industrial landscape. “Through this collaboration, we aim to ensure that Malaysian engineers are not only prepared to tackle technological challenges but are also equipped with the skills that will enhance the country's global competitiveness,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ir. Ts. Dr. Tan Chee Fai, Honorary Secretary, the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), also shared that this initiative is part of a broader effort to equip Malaysian engineers with the necessary skills to meet future challenges. “With AI capabilities, engineers will be key drivers in advancing productivity and innovation, ultimately contributing to the nation’s economic progress,” he said. This program aligns with the country’s digital transformation agenda, preparing engineers to tackle the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0).

The AI Aware Program focuses not only on theoretical knowledge but also on the practical applications of AI technology through real-world case studies. Some of the key applications introduced include predictive analytics, design optimization, smart infrastructure, and renewable energy solutions. Additionally, the program will emphasize the importance of addressing ethical challenges and other issues when integrating AI into traditional engineering workflows.

MPC and IEM are inviting all engineers, technologists, and technical professionals in Malaysia to take advantage of this opportunity and join the AI Aware Certification Program as the first step in their journey toward more efficient and innovative smart engineering in the Industry4.0 era.
