Malaysia Promotes Asean Transport Safety

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has hosted the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) dangerous goods safety adviser (DGSA) certification programme from April 21-27, 2025, to promote logistics safety and enhance regional trade, said Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC).
In a statement, MPC said the programme was organised through its chemical productivity nexus, in collaboration with the chemical industry and the International Road Transport Union (IRU) Academy, Geneva.
“This initiative reflects Malaysia’s strong commitment to international safety standards, aligned with the Asean Framework Agreement on the Facilitation of Goods in Transit Protocol 9.
“In today’s fast-evolving logistics landscape, ensuring the safe transport of hazardous materials is more critical than ever,” it said.
The firm said the DGSA certification is based on the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) and harmonised with global standards such as the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code and the International Air Transport Association Dangerous Goods Regulations.
It noted that participants in the programme underwent intensive training, grounded in the UNECE ADR “Orange Book”, which included theoretical modules, case studies, and a competency-based examination.
“The training was delivered by the Asian Institute of Logistics, Malaysia, an IRU Academy-approved training institute,” it noted.
MPC director-general Datuk Zahid Ismail said Malaysia’s commitment to logistics and transport safety is vital to our national competitiveness and supports Asean’s vision of a connected, resilient region.
“The certification programme is a cornerstone in strengthening safe, efficient cross-border trade,” he said.
By proactively aligning with UNECE ADR standards, MPC said that Malaysia not only reinforces its role in advancing regional logistics but also supports Asean’s broader goal of seamless cross-border transport, supply chain resilience, and sustainable economic growth.
This strategic initiative further positions Malaysia and the Asean region as leaders in safe, efficient, and globally competitive logistics, added MPC.
