MPC Introduces Grant to Boost Productivity Through R&D&C&I

18 March 2024, Petaling Jaya – Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC), a leading advocate for productivity and efficiency in the country, recently launched the Productivity Grant.

This groundbreaking initiative aims to identify and support the development of innovative products with the potential to revolutionise customer productivity and operational efficiency.

The Productivity Grant is designed to foster innovation across industries. It encourages companies to develop and introduce groundbreaking solutions that address existing challenges and unlock new growth opportunities. This initiative seeks to catalyse advancements contributing to a more efficient, productive, and sustainable economic landscape.

The grant encourages the creation of innovative products and solutions that integrate cutting-edge technologies, modern methodologies, or distinctive concepts to tackle unmet market demands.

The Productivity Grant underscores MPC’s focus on Research and Development (R&D) for commercialisation to push industries towards higher value chains. This aligns with the Mid-Term Review of the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (MTR 12MP)’s productivity target of 3.8 percent growth annually. Experimental research and commercialisation are prioritised to encourage market-based R&D activities.

Through the grant, MPC hopes to unlock innovation that enhances operational efficiency, reduces expenses, or enriches output standards for businesses and consumers. The grant aims to impact economic development by supporting ventures capable of scaling product commercialisation, generating employment opportunities, and nurturing competitive advantages within industries.

MPC Director-General, Zahid Ismail said, "The Productivity Grant supports the government's aspiration to increase private sector spending on R&D and improve Malaysia’s ranking in the Global Innovation Index (GII) to the top 20. Implementing the grant contributes to increasing firm-level productivity by 30% and skilled workers by 20% throughout the 12MP. MPC is confident that enterprise productivity can be enhanced by encouraging the creation of innovative products and services".

MPC invites eligible companies and entrepreneurs to submit applications for the Productivity Grant. Applications are open from 14th March to 14th April 2024, with a maximum funding cap of RM350,000. Selected projects must deliver lasting improvements to customer productivity and operational efficiency.
