A workshop was conducted to discuss the technical requirements set by the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (BOMBA) for pharmaceutical plant approvals. The session brought together industry representatives and technical consultants to examine key issues and challenges affecting productivity in the pharmaceutical sector. This initiative was prompted by industry feedback highlighting significant delays in the development of pharmaceutical plants—often taking more than seven years—due to unclear and misunderstood technical requirements, particularly those related to BOMBA approvals. The discussions aimed to clarify BOMBA’s fire safety compliance procedures, identify recurring bottlenecks, and explore practical solutions to improve the overall efficiency of the approval process. Case studies were shared to provide real-world context and promote a better understanding of how technical requirements can be met without unnecessary delays. Industry participants were also facilitated and advised by experts on BOMBA requirements through the review and assessment of their construction plans. The workshop provided an important platform for sharing knowledge and offering technical guidance. It represented a positive move toward improving the pharmaceutical plant approval process while ensuring compliance with strict safety standards. Moving forward, the session will contribute to the development of practical guidelines aimed at harmonizing the approval process making it more efficient, structured, and aligned with industry needs.
